Here at Staff Partners Mental Health, we have an exciting opportunity for a Permanent Consultant Psychiatrist in Adult inpatient services for an established private hospital based in Hull.
Job Description:
This role is a full-time permanent position. The hospital is a 14 bedded in-patient facility, based in inner city Hull and offers assessment for people with a variety of mental health needs.
The post holder will join an established team of Specialist Consultant Psychiatrists in Working Age Adults alongside a wider established network of consultants covering all sub-specialties. There is weekly teaching and weekly peer-group events to support professional and personal development.Responsibilities:
- The post holder will provide medical assessment, diagnosis, formulation and management advice to the EIP Team. On completion of assessment, to provide reviews, advise on diagnosis, management and treatment within the teams to external providers.
- The post holder will assess and make recommendations under the Mental Health Act.
- To collaborate with GP’s, hospital doctors and primary care clinicians regarding the physical health care of service users.
- To provide (or ensure referral to the appropriate service for the provision of) up to date evidence based interventions for service users.
- The post holder will provide leadership, consultation, advice and guidance within the EIP Team
- To work collaboratively with other Senior Clinical colleagues in the EIP Team
- To work collaboratively with other colleagues in other specialist mental health teams, for example Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Team.
- The post holder will liaise appropriately to facilitate smooth transfer of care in the transitions between urgent and planned care.
- To take a lead role with the Team Manager and other colleagues in service improvements and development.
- The post holder will contribute to the ongoing training and development programme within the team.
- The post holder will lead, collaborate and advise on research and audit projects in the team and within the Clinical Governance agenda.
- The post holder is expected to work flexibly with colleagues to enable the smooth running of the service, and to ensure the most appropriate care is provided to each individual patient.
- To comply with all Humber Trust policies and procedures, drawn up in consultation with the professions in respect of clinical matters.
- To complete all relevant clinical administration associated with the post.
- The appointee must be able to travel around the facilities serviced by this post and travel to all areas covered by the on-call rota (Hull and East Riding only).
- These duties are subject to review from time to time in light of the changing requirements of the service. If alterations to the described duties are required, these will be mutually agreed between the appointee and the Trust.
- To manage, appraise and give professional supervision to junior medical staff as agreed between consultant colleagues and the Medical Director and in accordance with the Trust’s personnel policies and procedures. This may include assessing competencies under the Modernising Medical Careers framework.
- To ensure that junior medical staff working with the post holder, operate within the parameters of the New Deal and are Working Time Directive compliant.
- To undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients.
- To record clinical activity accurately and comprehensively and submit this promptly to the Information Department.
- To participate in service and business planning activity for the locality and, as appropriate, for the whole mental health service.
- To participate in annual appraisal for consultants.
- To attend and participate in the academic programme of the Trust, including lectures and seminars as part of the internal CPD programme.
- To maintain professional registration with the General Medical Council, Mental Health Act Section 12(2) approval, and to abide by professional codes of conduct.
- To participate annually in a job plan review with the clinical manager, which will include consultation with a relevant manager in order to ensure that the post is developed to take into account changes in service configuration and delivery associated with modernisation.
- To work with local managers and professional colleagues in ensuring the efficient running of services, and share with consultant colleagues in the medical contribution to management.
- To comply with the Trust’s agreed policies, procedures, standing orders and financial instructions, and to take an active role in the financial management of the service and support the medical director and other managers in preparing plans for services
Job Requirements:
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management
- Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
- Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months.
- Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
- Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment
- In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice
- Excellent knowledge in specialty
- Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
- Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
- Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others
- Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service
- Able to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training
- Ability to work in and lead team
- Able to use and appraise clinical evidence.
- Able to plan and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training relevant to this post
- Experienced in clinical research and / or service evaluation.
- Evidence of achievement in education, research, audit and service improvement: awards, prizes, presentations and publications.
