Job Description:
This role is a full-time permanent position based in an established private hospital.
A unique opportunity to work in a unit where extensive medical support is offered to the patients. You will work alongside a Consultant Psychiatrist. As a Specialty Doctor you will work closely with the Consultant Psychiatrist to provide continuous medical cover on a daily basis to the patients on the ward.Assessment, appropriate investigation, diagnosis and treatment under Consultant supervision of inpatients -e ach patient must be interviewed and reassessed at a frequency appropriate to their individual clinical needs and sufficient to monitor changes and make timely modifications to the treatment plan. Good communication with ward staff, including morning handovers daily is an important part of the role.
The successful candidate will also participate in developing treatment plans and programmes as appropriate to ensure good medical practice within the MDT settings.
Supervision from the Consultant is available regularly as well as group Speciality Doctor supervision. There are plenty of training opportunities.
General working hours are Monday to Friday 9:00 – 17:00, with no on-call responsibilities.
There is RMO cover 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They will assist with physical health care, clerk in new admissions as well as manage patient’s physical health needs outside of working hours.
Key responsibilities:
- Undertake psychiatric and external assessments for clients referred to the unit to determine the appropriate level of care to be provided, under the direction and supervision of the Consultant Psychiatrist, and work with the unit multidisciplinary team to ensure delivery of the Care Programme.
- Prepare discharge summaries, reports and other associated documentation as necessary e.g. for CPA meetings, as directed and supervised by the Consultant Psychiatrist.
- Participation in learning activities and supervision.
- Participation in Clinical Governance activities, and account for contracted hours utilised in research, Continuing Professional Development and other non-clinical duties as necessary and in a timely manner.
- Working effectively with colleagues to ensure that clients have access to appropriate medical cover at all times, which will require participation in an on-call rota for the site.
- The post holder will be expected to support the GP in delivering physical health care and emergency treatment to patients in complex care.
- To support the RMO and GP in delivering a consistently high standard of medical care to all patients on site. Be responsible for inducting new RMP’s and providing cover for them when they are on compensatory rest periods.
- Share responsibility for taking bloods with the site phlebotomist and RMO as necessary.
- Arrange appropriate clinical tests and investigations and take responsibility for chasing up results and acting on them in a timely manner.
- Ensure physical observations by ward staff are carried out in accordance with medical instructions. Review physical observation findings and act upon them in a clinically appropriate manner.
- Any other duties considered to be commensurate with the level of the post
Job Requirements:
- Full GMC registration
- 12 months’ adult psychiatry experience
- Relevant experience within a similar setting (preferred)
- Approval under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act (preferred)
- Excellent knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983 (2007) and Code of Practice along with Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Code of Capacity
- The ability to interview, assess and treat patients and write clear comprehensive medical notes
- Proven record of CPD
- Desirable: Membership of Royal College of Psychiatrists, Physicians, General Practitioners or equivalent
- A positive attitude and commitment to change, improvement and quality
- Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills
Knowledge / Education / Skills:
- MBBS or equivalent.
- GMC registration and license to practice
- Appraisal or RITA in last year
- In good standing with the Royal College of Psychiatrists for CPD
