Sector: Private HealthcareStaff Partners Mental Health is currently recruiting for an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist in Forensic Psychiatry to join a well-established secure mental health service in the Monmouthshire area.
This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and experienced psychiatrist to take on a senior leadership role, providing expert clinical oversight and recovery-focused care for individuals within forensic mental health services.
The Role
As a Consultant Psychiatrist, you will:
• Act as Responsible Clinician under the Mental Health Act for patients within secure services
• Lead psychiatric assessments, risk management, formulation, and treatment planning
• Provide specialist advice to courts, probation services, prison services, and other stakeholders
• Prepare reports for Mental Health Review Tribunals, hospital managers' hearings, and relevant authorities
• Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Nursing, and Social Work professionals
• Contribute to service development, pathway improvement, and strategic planning initiatives
• Lead on clinical governance, quality improvement projects, audits, and risk management processes
• Support and supervise junior doctors and trainee psychiatrists
• Promote high standards of clinical care and professional practice across the serviceRequirements
• MBBS/MBChB (or equivalent) and Full GMC Registration
• MRCPsych qualification
• Approved Clinician Status and Section 12 Approval
• CCT or CESR in Psychiatry
• Minimum of 5 years' postgraduate psychiatric experience, including significant experience within forensic settings
• Previous experience as a Responsible Clinician within secure services
• Strong understanding of the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, and forensic risk assessment principles
• Experience preparing reports for courts, tribunals, and external agencies
• Demonstrable leadership and multidisciplinary team management experience
